Class and Workshops, Fall 2009 Schedule

















Free Knit In every Thursday evening 5-8p.m. and Fridays 1-4p.m.
This is a great opportunity to get together with other knitters and see what everyone else is working on. Come in and curl up on our sofas, there’s always hot coffee on!!

(*Minimal instruction is available, but if you feel you will need extra help please book a private class.)

Beginner Knit Level I (3 dates available)
Monday Oct. 6, 6-9p.m. or
Saturday Oct 24, 10a.m.-1p.m. or
Monday Nov 16, 6-9p.m.
Learn the absolute basics of knitting. You will learn to cast on and off, the knit stitch, and simple increases and decreases. Our project is a dishcloth.
Fee: $30 plus materials

Beginner Knit Level II (2 dates available)
Tuesday Oct. 20, 6-9p.m. or
Tuesday Nov.3, 6-9p.m.
Now’s the time to learn to purl! For those who took our level I class, or maybe you know how to knit a scarf but are ready to move on. In this class you will knit a baby hat, you will learn the purl stitch and how to finish your project professionally.
Fee: $30 plus materials

Socks
Wednesday Oct. 7, 14, and 21, 6-8p.m.
Get in on the sock knitting craze and learn to knit funky socks using self patterning sock yarn. These socks are knit on 5 needles from the top down.
Fee: $45 plus materials

Toe-Up Socks
Saturday Oct. 24, 31 and Nov.14, 12-3p.m.
Learn how to knit 2 socks at once from the toe up and using circular needles. There is a two week break between the second and third class to ensure you have enough time to knit.
Fee: $50 plus materials

Thrum Mittens
Oct 13, 6-9p.m.
Learn to knit warm, comfy mittens on 4 needles. These mitts have tufts of unspun wool inside for added warmth. Perfect for Christmas gifts!
Fee: $30 plus materials


Top Down Baby Sweater
Oct.19, 26 and Nov. 2, 6-8p.m.
Knit a baby sweater from the neck down, using circular needles and double points. The best part about this technique of sweater knitting is that when you’re done, you’re done!! No sewing up required!!
Fee: $45 plus materials

Cables
Nov. 18, 6-9p.m.
Learn the simplicity of knitting cables in this beautiful scarf project. You will learn several different cables as well as I-cord edging which will prevent your scarf from rolling in at the edges.
Fee: $25 plus materials

Multidirectional Scarf
Oct. 27, 6-9p.m.
This is the perfect project for any yarn. Learn the technique of short row shaping to create this attractive scarf.
Fee: $20 plus materials

Fairisle Fingerless Gloves
Nov. 21 &28, 12-3p.m.
This is a great opportunity to try color work in a fun and functional project.
Fee: $40 plus materials

Lace
Nov 10 & 24, 6-9p.m.
Learn to knit a delicate lace scarf. You will learn to cast on using a crochet hook and knitting needle and you will learn the basics of lace. There are 2 weeks in between classes to give you the time to get your scarf to where it needs to be for the second class.
Fee: $40 plus materials

Finishing
Nov. 7, 12-3p.m.
Do you dread sewing up your projects? This class is aimed to cure that!! You will learn to sew up your knitting professionally using mattress stitch. You will also learn different techniques for shoulder seams (three needle bind off and grafting) and how to sew in sleeves.
Fee: $25


***Most classes require some homework, so please be sure you will have the time in your schedule to get the at home work finished. All classes require registration and full payment in advance. Please call 458-9193 to register.
All of our classes will be repeated in the new year.***

Finishing Workshop

November 8th, 2008 or November 15th, 2008
1 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Fee: $20

So you've finished your project but now you have to put it together, is this something that you dread? This is one workshop you won't want to miss! Learn everything you need to finish your projects neatly and professionally. In this 2 hour course we will cover mattress stitch for side seams, 2 different shoulder seaming techniques including a 3-needle bind off, picking up stitches around necklines, and grafting.

Beginner Knit Class

November 5, 12, 19 and 26, 2008
6 p.m. - 8 p.m.
Fee: $80, materials are included

In this 4 week course you will learn to cast on and off, to knit and purl, basic increases and decreases, and seaming techniques. Projects are a dishcloth, a toque and a pair of mittens.
